I came from out of state (California), and there was definately a culture shock coming here. Very religious and some people aren't sensitive to other people's views. Chapel was a giant advertisement and a complete waste of time, just get it over with your freshmen year and try to block out the memory of it. I slept through most of it. This school is known as a suitcase school because a lot of people leave on the weekend. My first year here everyone would go home on the weekends so it was hard to get to know anyone. Also, I lived in the honors dorms, where there are seriously deranged and socially retarded people—people who would rather do laundry on saturday nights than go anywhere—so i don't advise living there. Not that there is much to do in Waco. I made the mistake of not really looking at the town, because the school looked so nice. The city doesn't feel entirely safe, many people have had their apartments and cars broken into. Absolutely nothing to do on the weekends here, driving anywhere gets old because nothing good is under an hour and a half away. This town would drive anyone to drink. I wish I could pick up the school and put it in another city. Living off campus is definately the way to go, on-campus housing feels too much like living with your parents with their "visitation hours" for members of the opposite sex and their strict anti-drinking rules. The people here are friendly but I find it to be generally a polite/fake friendly. People buy their friends by being in expensive sororites/fraternities, so if you aren't a spoiled Texan, whose parents and grandparents all went here, it will be harder to find people you have anything in common with. One positive thing I can say is that I very much like the professors here, most are helpful, friendly (a sincere friendly), and fair. The campus is beautiful too, but the rest of Waco leaves something to be desired.
