One of the worst colleges in the nation. If you aren't Nazarene do not go here. Went to this school for sports last year and regret it everyday when I wake up. The problems are numerous. Beggining with petty and stupid fines. My roomate and I were fined hundreds of dollars over my 2 semesters at this horrid "institution." I use "" because I don't believe it to be an institution, but a backwater church school that gives you no real experience for real life. The fines were ridiculos. 25 dollars for swearing in our room. 25 dollars for having a picture of a girl on the wall. The RA's are so pompous and arrogant that they offer no real help, and it seems like their main goal in life is to get sneaky fines against you. Parking is brutal, with 2 lots that are constantly packed. Tickets are given out by the handful. One of the worst aspects, but not the only, of Olivet is going to chapel. Forcing you to get up early and be there on time. For one hour you have to sit in a hot sweaty chapel with brainwashed students standing with their arms raised to god, while a preacher stands up in front and tells you why you are sinful. Then they sing for an hour, no real lessons are learned. I would have no problem with the chapel aspect, EXCEPT THEY FINE YOU IF YOU DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????? FORCING ME AGAINST MY OWN WILL TO GO TO YOUR AWFUL CHAPEL AND LISTEN TO TEACHINGS I THINK ARE WRONG????????? GIVE ME A BREAK@!#$@#$@#4 But, if you're still considering this place, let me tell you about the town. Relativley close to chicago, it was easy to get home. Bourbonnais though, has nothing to offer. Kankakee, ranked the worst city in america a few years ago, is next door. Horrid crime rate, and run down buildings surruond you in bourbonnais. Want to be part of the night life?? Too bad. If you are caught by any student or alum going into a bar, ordering a drink or smoking, they will tattle on you and you will be punished. So throw the whole party aspect out of this college experience. The people at this school are for the most part brainwashed farmers. They come in to this school and like to go to "Party with Jesus" and have bible studies. But, watch out! It gets out of hand when the crank out the mountain dew and stay up past 11 o'clock. They also are decieving. If you think you have a friend and tell them any information that will get you in trouble, they will go to the RA and squeel on you like a pig. Setting of the fire alarms and constant shower cloggings ruin the dorm life experience, and the constant blaring of gospel from the hallways is one of the worst things that anyone should have to go through. All and all this is an awful place, but if you still want to go here I will tell you one last tihng that might make you choose another school. The teachers are not there to educate, but brainwash their own nazarene ways upon you. I was given a C on a speach for talking about evolution. One of my teachers had the nerve to blame hurricane katrina on the "sinful people of new orleans," and " that God smited them for their evil ways!" A PROFESSOR AT A UNIVERSITY!!! I couldn't believe that the teachers could speak such garbage and that no students were appauled by it. If you do go here, find friends quick. Don't get caught up in the Nazarene way of life, or you will be forever be stuck with their closemindedness. Find people that truly want to experience college away from home, that give you different ideas, and come from different backgrounds. Challenge yourself, and think outside their brainwashed box. Transfer if you can.
