Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
My experience so far is very satisfying. I don't know how it is like in the other departments, but in the Illustration/2d Animation department, the faculty and tech support are friendly, especially the Directors, who are always willing to direct and help. They go out of their way to give us opportunities, portfolio reviews, set up classes that would benefit each student individually.

The classes are graded harshly, and competition is expected… what else could I ask for! This is the ART INDUSTRY. COMPETITION is like food to us. Unless you put work into your classes, then there isn't going to be great results. There is no A for effort. Especially not in a field where end result is a factor in whether or not you get to keep your job.

There are arrogant teachers, there are idiot students, but how your college experience is up to you to determine. YOu can ask around for the best teachers in a certain subject. Take their class. Network with teachers who are still in the field. Submit work into the Spring Show, get noticed. This is all on the student, not the teachers.

If you, as a student, feel as if you shouldn't have to go out of your way to get the best opportunities, then how will you, as a professional, find a decent job afterwards?

questionHi, My name is Vincent Wester and I am graduating highschool this year. I've always wanted to get into the animation field but I'm feeling lost right now. I heard only good things about academy of art from people I know, but this site kind of discouraged me. There were a lot of negative comments that bothered me. I am a very dedicated person and I do work hard at things. I want to know, once I attend this school, if I do graduate, would my BFA be credible? Also, what do you think the chances of getting a job out of college in animation would be? From what I've read the animation department seems VERY good, and I'm excited about that. Also something about the school draws me toward it, and it is the school I'm wanting to attend the most right now. If you could, it would be great if you replied. Also, maybe tell me a little bit about what you do? That would be great too because I don't know much about animation. Do I have to be an excellent drawer to succeed? I could learn, but drawing isn't my best skill. I took art freshmen year, and really loved it and did very well but that was the only year. Anyways, thank you for your time and Good luck with your job
responseIf you go to Pixar's Website, some of director are actually graduates of AAU. Dont get discougrage. Im attending there this fall. As with anything in life if people dont get what they want to a point of their satisfaction they will always have bad things to say. Also, most people who are mad about something seem to write reviews… think about that…
