For the love of god do not go here. Attending GCC was the single worst experience of my entire life. At 33 years of age I still have horrible nightmares about it. The concentration camp like rules have already been well documented by other posters. I can only assume that the good reviews on this board were written by faculty members.

Points of Fact:

1. Almost no employers recognize the name of GCC. The only city in the nation where there is even a tiny percentage of notoriety is Pittsburgh which is a dying dump anyway.

2. Many classes, especially humanities, are not academically legitimate because of their religious slant. If you try to go to another school with a degree from GCC you will have to start all over with English 101. I wanted to transfer out of GCC only to discover my credits were worthless.

3. The student body is almost 100% white and from rich, privileged backgrounds. The only minorities are a tiny handful of foreign students (these were my only friends out of the entire school.)

4. Jews, catholics, sex, beer, democrats, music, television, pornography, homosexuals, minorities, the poor, anyone non-wasp are all openly condemned to hell by students, administrators, and faculty. Racist, gay-bashing, and anti-semitic views are openly displayed. The only viewpoint allowed is 100% straight-edge rick santorum/jerry falwell republican.

5. Because many of the students were either home-schooled or attended religious high schools, no one has the ability to function normally in social settings. They have very twisted and bizarre beliefs. Many students marry early. They are incapable of dealing with normal people.

6. The rigid rules do not apply to a select few privileged so-called “fraternities and “sororities. Many of them openly drink, use drugs, have sex, and cheat on tests, etc. etc.

7. There is a total lack of anything to do around the tiny, isolated, one-horse town.

8. The students are very cliqueish, immature, and close-minded.

Um, Rick Santorum is Catholic. Wouldn't that place him among the despised, per your analysis? ;)

Just wondering!

commentI once told someone at gcc I was thinking of converting to catholicism from being presbyterian. She laughed and made some rude comment.
responseMy best friend was told to his face multiple times that he was going to hell by other students because he was catholic. I witnessed it. I was there. It happened. You are right that the Santorum support is contradictory. Why is it this way? I have no idea. Maybe they agree with the whole womens place is in the home and all that type of thinking. You'd have to ask the crazy people that believe in that stuff. I can't explain it.
commentAlthough I'm black, I actually enjoyed my time there. I guess that's because I was a super religious nut at the time (class of 1999). If the school knew that I'm now a liberal atheist, they'd probably take my name off the Senior Man of the Year stone outside the chapel. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't go there though.
