Hampshire can be a little bit hard to get used to at first. It is not the typical college scene with theme dances, keg parties, etc. The students are treated like adults from minute one and this can be good and bad. To succeed here you have to take initiative and be motivated. In every way you have to create what you are doing, your social life, and your academics. It can be scary not being told what to do, but it is also really exciting. The professors are incredible. They are all really passionate about their subjects. The students are also passionate about their work and talk about what they are learning in the classroom in the dining hall, at parties, and just hanging out in their rooms. It is not an easy place, but it is worth it for the freedom and creativity.I have not taken any classes at any of the other schools yet, but I am really looking forward to it. I want to take classes at both Amherst and UMass. I figure between the two there should be just about everything I could want. The 5 college consortium is what makes Hampshire, in my opinion. What an opportunity! I have heard from upperclassmen that it is really easy to take classes on other campuses and a great way to have a rich and varied college experience and transcript. I wasn't so sure about Hampshire at first, but now I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
