Major: Sociology (This Major's Salary over time)
I love Gettysburg College. It is a great school. The faculty is always friendly, the courses are great and interesting. The campus is beautiful. I have some issues with the core requirements, particularly the science that is impossible to fit in unless you're a science major, but all in all, its a great school. The library is open 24 hours a day and is amazing. And the dorms are fairly nice. I also love the center for public service- over 50% of the campus volunteers and there are all kinds of opportunities for everyone- there are even break opportunities if you want to travel. Study abroad is very popular- and most of the students participate- the school even reimburses you for most of your airfare. A couple less great things about the school is that their priorities are not always in the right place. When dealing with not having enough parking- they built an unnecessary new athletic complex on top of a parking lot then decided that first-years could not have parking, even though you need a car to get anywhere. Also, the dorms, while nice and not yet crowded, are barely sufficient for housing the student body. Yet, all resources go towards the new athletic center, even though we already have 2. however, if given the choice, I would NOT choose this school again. The students are mainly upper-class jcrew wearing snobs who pay for their college with only their parents money. This shows, as they do not care about their school work and party every night. To the student who came to learn, its very disheartening. 40% of the campus is Greek, even though first-years cannot join. Its a big part of campus life, and if you're not a part of it, you get left out of a lot of things and are looked down on by most greek members. Students are just looking for the quickest way to get their degree and get out of there, for the most part. There are always exceptions, but you have to look for them. There are nice kids. But they are not the majority. And, did I mention that everyone comes from the area? Everyone is from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. There are very few from anywhere else. Sum it up: great school, snobby students.
