ODU is a very diverse school. Currently it is still majorly a commuter school but ODU is making strong initiatives to transform the school into a more traditional university. Since I have been at ODU they have been building like crazy. ODU is spending an incredible amount of money on new buildings and transforming the campus to attract a different type of student body. With that said, I believe ODU is a good choice for people who are interested in their studies and overall trying to succeed. The school is heavily trying to attract that type of student. In the past I feel that ODU has been open to too many "slacker" students who don't put their best foot forward. The administration in my program has been very helpful and I have noticed that what I put in is what I am going to get out of it. Professors are willing to work with students and generally want to see their students succeed. Norfolk probably isn't the most interesting place to live. For the most part its a pretty quiet city if you live near the university. You will have to look to find things to do. If you are a fan of the beach then you will like being at ODU during the spring when it becomes incredibly hard to studyFor the most part ODU does have a lot of students that grew up in the area. ODU is a great starting point for students who want to be successful but may not have been able to get into a higher tier school. For the money I feel that I have gotten a quality education. Although I like ODU I wouldn't go back for a Masters because I think its a good idea to diversify ones education through varying types of instruction.
