When I was accepted into Mass. Maritime, I was excited and, of course naive. I liked it there. I didn't like it at first though. Overall, life after MMA has been completely downhill. So far, I have been fired from every single job since I have been out of MMA. I sailed on oil tankers as a 3/M for a little while. Almost every single captain I sailed with screamed at me several times for doing something wrong. I was then subsequently fired from a top energy company in Boston. I was only there for 1 month. After that job, I had to get a customer service job making only $29,000/yr. So much for a college education.

I am absolutely ashamed of myself. If I could do things over again, I would have studied much harder in high school. If I could do anything over again, I would have gone to a private school and then would have gone to a place like Northeastern, UNH, Hofstra, etc. You should do a search for the aforementioned schools, I bet the sentiment is much better.

Also, I feel as though, that, when employers see Mass. Maritime Acad. on a resume they begin to conceive a notion that it's not a good school because 1)it's a state school and 2)the tuition isn't that expensive. What employers need to do (instead of reading about the school on the internet) is drive down to the school! They need to see what happens at morning formation, after-school extra curricular activities, etc., then they would probably have a little more respect.

After reading this, you probably think that I'm a sour person…haha! I'm just voicing my opinion. Mass. Maritime has been great for many people, it just hasn't for me, that's all.

Another thing for young people to know is that, since Mass. Maritime is not a big athletic school, I would recommend trying out for any sport regardless of your experience. Don't listen to anybody. Do what's best for you. If you never played football and think you can do it, and understand the game then tryout. That is something I regret not doing. Don't let anybody discourage you. Do what feels best for you. It's D-III football. It's respectable, but c'mon folks its not Boston College.
