Major: Music - Composition/Theory (This Major's Salary over time)
I have just come back on campus for my second year at Hampshire. Last year I was not so sure about it. There is a lot of freedom, and that can be kind of scary. I would talk to my friends at other schools and it suddenly seemed very comfortable and easy to be told what classes to take for what major, and not to have to create it all on one's own. This summer I did a lot of reading and that has informed what classes I want to take this year. I have realized that this is the beauty of Hampshire for me: that as I change as a person I can follow my interests and see where they lead me.Hampshire is a true liberal arts education. It is not career training at all. I will hopefully come out of here knowing myself, and what I like and don't like, pretty well. In actuality, isn't that pretty good career training?Hampshire is a very friendly place socially and academically. No one is competitive, and in fact there is a lot of support from peers regarding the work you are pursuing. The campus is set in a beautiful place and is well maintained. At first I missed being in a city, but I have come to see how much this area has to offer. There are about 30 thousand college students in this area because of all the schools, so while Hampshire is small, and offers all the benefits of that, there are also all the perks of a bigger school in terms of classes and culture.Hampshire takes maturity, independence, and confidence. If you are willing to take advantage of all that is offered, I think it can be an incredible education. I aim to do just that!
