If you are a person who wants a four year degree, loves to learn and be challenged- do not go here. If you value more than multiple choice quizzes and tests-do not go here. If you are open-minded, intellectual and genuinely enjoy school/discussions-do not go here.BMCC is a shame on NYC! Its like living in the East Village in the early 80s without the cool art and cool neighborhood! For a city that prides itself in being better than all the others or at least most of them- BMCC is a shock to the system! Its location in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in America-Tribeca-could not be a more bitter irony to the educational ghetto that resides inside of that carefully sculpted, modernist shell. This school is positively mind-numbing. The students are for the very most part positively astounding in their inability to grasp simple concepts, facts and basic etiquette.I don't even think that the professors who speak English fluently are all that bad but they are beaten down by the students' poor work ethics, lack of passion for learning and exasperating disrespect for fellow classmates/professors themselves. Though if you get the half of the profs that do not speak English well, god help you. Good luck understanding the coursework. This school is positively of the lowest caliber. Nothing works-be it the panther student web system, the bathrooms, often the escalators, the beaurocracy, the financial aid office and the "health center". I dont know what to say except that I am flabbergasted that tax payer dollars are being wasted on this place! Concrete Examples: English/Social Sciences departments were hiring profs at the very last minute the day before classes began and using what seemed like only phone interview/cvs to screen the potential candidates. One of the profs had not even graduated school himself yet and had NO class plan, suggested students should teach parts of the class! The head of social sciences had her secretary fielding students the day before school began, refused to talk to any of the student body! How cowardly and unprofessional!Professors are always quick to point out how educated they are and that they attended a better school than you! Good and I would expect that but it should be a given!Fin Aid office condescending with no reason to be, states loudly that they don't care about you because most people take the money and run!!!!! WTF?!Gives you a brochure which eventually sends you to the Panther system which doesn't work but is essential to receive student loans. Repeated contacts with web admin get you nowhere!"Health Center"-I have no idea what they are there for only that the only thing they seem competent enough to do is take your immunization form and even then…there are issues! They had no idea what GHI is! GHI is specially designed for CUNY health insurance!Disabilities Office-the only competent, dependable person is the secretary. Don't bother asking any questions or thinking you might get any real advocacy. Its not going to happen! Security-what is their purpose? I dont feel any safer just because someone can flash a NYS ID and walk right in! Ive seen students hiding drugs for buyers in plain view….Positives, there are a few professors who despite all of this genuinely care. They do their profession an honor and the students an often, thankless favor. The Women's Resource Center is generally very helpful and friendly! The athletic facilities are nice and well kept. This place is soul-crushing! If you are there and see things as I do, know you are not alone!
