Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
The work is very challenging here—much more challenging than I expected it to be. I went to a really rigorous high school and was told my graduates from my high school that college was easy in comparison. So, I came to wpi expecting a break. I did not get a break. Most of the kids in my calc class failed our first mid-term, and the highest grade in my seminar class last year was a whopping 89. That said, the professors are generally very good and obviously intelligent, though I don't know why they'd hire my math teacher, who can't speak english very well and is almost unintelligable. The music department is AWESOME—really, really impressive, which I did NOT expect. I can't stress enough how impressive it is. In addition, there are tons of kids who are passionate about music here. There are multiple music groups—orchestra, jazz band, concert band, pep band, ensembles, quartettes, everything. I have to say the place seems to be bursting with money. Throughout orientation it was repeated several times that wpi is ranked in the top ten for national universities with the highest salary for its graduates, and they seem to donate to the school a fair bit. The only thing I can point out about the school that is dissapointing is that the student body doesn't seem to be that intellectual—only a small percentage care, or know of, current events, politics, or what's happening outside of worcester in general, not to mention across the globe in iraq. Though they are lacking in this sense, the kids here and overall very friendly.
