St. Mary-of-the-Woods is an amazing school for many reasons. One of the greatest thing about St. Mary-of-the-Woods is how it is filled with tradition. Ring Day and Big Sis/Little Sis week are just a couple of the traditional activities that take place every year. The campus is small, very small. Sometimes it is a blessing to have a such a small school but it can also get a little stir crazy your first couple of months here. Be patient, as soon as you find your niche it is easy to have a lot of fun and find something to do. The Woods is all women. When I was first heading here I was nervous that there would be cattiness and pettiness that I was used to from high school. This is not the case at all here. Every girl I have met has been friendly, approachable, and easy to get along with. For all of the ladies out there looking for dates don't be discouraged by The Woods being an all women's school; Rose-Hulman and ISU are less than fifteen minutes away. The professors are AMAZING. There are no Teaching Assistants and the biggest class I have had so far has been 12 people. Every professor knows me by name and I have only been here for one year. Every individual professor cares about the students and the students' success. The coursework is challenging, yet manageable. The Woods also has an excellent reputation without being pompous. If you are interested in any kind of career that involves field observations as a requirement before graduation (education, music therapy, business, etc.) I would highly recommend The Woods. As a Freshman, I will be completing Field Observation work within Music Therapy and by this time next year I will have my own group of field to lead. I would recommend The Woods to any woman who is interested in being a leader, an individual, and is looking to create a strong sense of self through education and self improvement.
