I was a pretty unmotivated high school student, so Hampshire helped me learn how to become a student, which for various reasons I hadn't done before college. Because I was able to do this without getting letter grades, Hampshire ultimately helped me get into medical school when I got it together. At least when I was there, getting into graduate school did not seem to be a problem for hampsters. On a personal level, my being a student at Hampshire gave me the confidence to accomplish things out of my field of study, such as helping found a day school, and directing a musical. As is frequently observed, this is not place for everybody, but if you are passionate about learning, and have an independent streak, this is a great place.
