Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I came to Flagler because of its education program. As far as academics goes I never really had a problem. My problem was the social life. I came to Flagler because its cheap for a private school and its right on the beach (I love to surf). This got annoying the because everyone that surfs there tries to fit the surfer image.I had some cool friends but all they wanted to do was sit around and smoke. The parties kind of suck because the cops ALWAYS break it up by 1 and the bars start kicking people out at 12:30 because in St. Johns county it's ILLEGAL TO DISTRIBUTE ALCOHOL PAST 1AM. I had one kid tell me that's not a big deal and that I should just go out earlier which I find to be a red flag for rookie drinkers. 1 AM hits on a Friday night and your wondering what to do with yourself as everyone goes back to their dorms and apartments while you still want to stay out and enjoy the rest of the night like you would at most schools. The best nights I had at flagler were the nights I was hanging out with the red necks kids because they're outgoing, genuine, fun people who love to party. The surfer crowd hates the rednecks because they're mostly the smug liberal type and the red necks are mostly conservatives. I will say this: surfer, redneck what have you, some of the friendliest people you could meet. The surfer crowd is pretty lame, If they had a drink in their hands it was more of a prop than a means to have fun )to go along with the scarfs and other ridiculous shit they would wear). The waves there are also mediocre at best, the waves in the north east have much more power in my opinion. They're are great shops there and some unbelievably good surfers. A lot of the people who I described (surfer crowd etc.) absolutely love going there and you should def check it out for yourself. In short I left because the social life was lame, if you drank and had an active social life in high school you most likely will get very bored (they also have no day drinking events like scranton st patties day, Preakness, craigs fest etc.) which boggles my mind because the weather is great there. This story sums up with my frustration with Flagler: The first day I got there pretty much every one was going to the slightly stoopid concert at the ampi theater (cool outdoor venue few miles from campus). If you weren't going to that show you were shit of of luck because everyone there goes ga ga over the reggae, surfer musical style of SS. A month later the Steve Miller Band was coming to the ampi theater and tickets were relatively cheap, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to get a bunch of people together to tail gait and see a great classic rock band. I couldn't get a single soul to come with me.
