I've been going to Crown for about three and a half years. I grew up in Minnesota I was attracted to the school because my grandparents met there and several other members of my family are currently attended. For the first two years I was a commuter and during that time I enjoyed the school a great deal, although it was hard feeling connected. I lived on campus for 1 1/2 years after that and while I was much more connected at that point I learned a lot more about the school. Some of the positives about the school: The faculty really do have a personal interest in the students' success. This is evident not only in the way they treat you but also in the fact that they are paid less than practically any other college professors yet they choose to remain at Crown for the students. Also the campus is a very friendly one and if you're new to campus you're sure to be shocked by the fact that everyone you see in the hall will smile at you and say 'hello'. Also, if you're looking for a good religious community to be a part of Crown definitely has that covered. Another thing is the campus is a sober one and has a relatively low crime rate. While there a number of hypocrites and people who say one thing and do another at Crown, they are few compared to the general population. The truth is you're going to find hypocrites everywhere and you're going to find the kind of people to hang around that you're looking for at Crown. Some of the negatives: The food service isn't the greatest and it's required that every residential student be a part of the food services program. Saint Bonifacius, is kind of in the middle of nowhere and there's not much to do in town, although you can go about 20 minutes out to get to the city. There are a lot of abitrary rules, like you can't watch movies in your personal bedroom. One thing that I don't like about Crown is that you're expected to talk a certain way about your faith. If you don't say something quite right or to the satisfaction of another person regarding your degree of religious practice they will question your faith. I observed this happening to other people and myself and I feel like it's a bit spiritually arogant to think that you know what's happening with others. Academically, the work is pretty difficult. I didn't realize exactly how difficult it was until I experience class work from another college. Obviously, the big negative that sticks out is the high price of tuition. As far as extra-curriculrs went I personally found plenty of activities to fill my time with. Although, if you are a bit choosy you might have difficulty finding things to do. Overall, most students at Crown would describe their schedules as being busy, so I believe that staying active isn't a problem in general.Things you should know before going to Crown: If you think it'd be easier than most private colleges you're probably wrong. The professors have high expectations. It is a strong religious community, which is great for some, but if you're not a Christian, then it's not the place for you. The only way that you can not be a Christian and get accepted to Crown is if you lie on your application and if you do that then what's the point of going there? Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Crown, but if given the opportunity to go to another college I might have taken it because I would have liked to see what a different college was like as well.
