Although I've only completed about a term and a half at WPI (thus leaving me at a blank for some of the letter grades I gave), WPI is a what-you-make-it kind of school.

The girl/guy ratio is really irrelevant. I've walked around campus and have felt the ratio to be the same, except for some classes, and even then it didn't matter. So if you were worried that, especially as a female, you wouldn't get noticed… or hoping that, as a female, you'd get all the attention in the world, it's pretty much middle ground here.

There are two shopping centers (one preferably better than the other): Lincoln Plaza, and the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley. There *is* a free bus that goes about every hour/hour and a half on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to these. Each has a Target, Dick's, etc. and there's a movie theater (at Blackstone). This past weekend, it rained, so guess where everyone went? The mall.

One thing that was important to me when I was looking at colleges was the amount of people that went home on the weekends. My roommates are local, and so it kind of sucks that they go home MOST weekends. And if you're super homesick, expect parents' weekend to suck if your parents don't come. But, for the most part, I've never felt isolated or abandoned on campus. It's very easy to make friends and, honestly, if you're always leaving, then obviously you won't make as many friends. (Commuters, no excuse; I know people who stay on campus SUPER late, and/or do show up on weekends.)

In terms of school spirit…Yeah, I'll admit, we do kind of lack it. I've never gone to any sports event, but I do live by the football field, so I'll hear the music blasting some Saturday mornings. I do feel that everyone but me wears some WPI gear (and you will get free shirts here, trust me).

The schoolwork isn't crazyhard… yet. Some of my friends feel more stressed than others, and there are some courses that are real GPA-killers. (ps. the whole NR policy is risky; you do need a certain number of classes to move on.) The work isn't strenuous to the point where you just want to give up, though. It's always doable. I've never felt like I couldn't do something.

That's why I chose this school to be neutral. When it's boring or easy, I wonder why I didn't choose a "better," "higher ranked" school then WPI. And then I realized rankings don't really matter. Employers do come frequently, especially those like Raytheon or General Electric. Though no one might have heard of the school in your town, someone definitely will have in the working world. And, to be honest, isn't that what you're slaving away for a degree for?

responseI didn't understand this topic well since college, so I didn't become an electrician.
responseA long time ago it was enough that you were an electrical engineer and with that you had a job now it is more difficult to compete with so many in the labor market that there is almost always no job only for those who learned to install solar panels I learned from which is an excellent work team and in addition to being a shop it can teach you how to install solar panels.
responseIt was unexpected to see this mention here, but I generally agree with the previous commentator. I’m not an engineer at all and I’m unlikely to ever become one, so for me this trick from https://www.renogy.com/diy-solar/ meant even more when choosing a power source. Guys, solar panels are a topic!
