Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
SMCC is the standard starting point for folks with no trust fund or who can't hit the ground running in a university setting. The location is beautiful. I always feel safe on campus, have even fallen asleep under the trees when the weather was nice. The program I'm in is very practical. What we learn is hands-on, and will transfer to the real world very well. This place trains you for a job, pretty much, or inspires you to go on to university. Many say CC isn't 'real school', but I think it depends on what one's aims are. I'm all for broadening one's horizons, and CC is as good a starting point as any. However, it's just that: A starting point. Not to be dismissed. Generally, the students are a little stand-offish. Especially in my major, folks are, on the whole, rather anti-social. The students who get good grades do such at the cost of connecting with others and being brutally competitive or just sheerly awkward. The ones who are happiest are the ones who are mature in their dealings. Professors, or rather, 'instructors' in my major aren't always supportive or helpful, but offer help to those who show effort. It is up to the students to get what they will at this college, just like any other institution for higher learning…
