Chapman is a slightly below average educational institution for the money and very disappointing overall. I will be transferring to a similar (academics) university before my junior year due to a general pattern of attitudes that are (more often than not) superficial and brutally condescending. Although there are definitely many nice people at Chapman, the more common encounter is honestly reminiscent of middle school all over again! The administrative and executive employees are heavily self serving and self absorbed relative to any genuine assistance for the average student—definitely preferential treatment for certain wealthier individuals. My family is fairly well off but have been also taught a certain degree of humility. Also, a distinct "CYA" mentality is quite prevalent and honestly scary at times. This I will say regarding the need for solution oriented approaches all the way to the President's Office: I have observed more than a few students reduced to tears and complete frustration listening cookie cutter responses lacking in integrity or empathy when help is truly needed. In short, the prevailing attitude from the folks that run Chapman seems to be "just follow the rules—we don't really have much interest in a serious discussion about real issues; let's pretend certain things really didn't happen . . . because who you are is more significant than what was said, and differing opinions don't really matter oh, and Have a nice day"!
