The Dominican College of Blauvelt

My reason for writing this post is not to hurt the reputation of the college. Rather, I hope that a high school student can use this information and make an educated decision about selecting the best school for them.

Dominican College has hurt me moving forward into my professional career. I am currently working at a top NY hospital and I am extremely happy with my position. Although, I find that the students that graduated from well-known colleges seem to move up in the hospital much faster than I have. Additionally, Dominican does not help you find a job upon earning your bachelor?s degree.

I wish I knew before entering in the college:

There is little social life and is mainly a commuter school.

Since it is a small school many of the teachers gossip about students.

There is a great deal of politics between administrators. Student?s problems rarely get resolved and they interpret handbooks and offer little guidance.

I would never recommend Dominican College to another student. I would recommend that High School students attend colleges that have strong reputations and will prepare them for the professional world. Additionally, I would recommend that High School students look at school statistics. Although I earned my degree from this college, they have a low retention rate and have no problem expelling students from programs and leaving them with no degree. Many of my classmates were expelled with little to no explanation and are still repaying their undergraduate loans.

I hope this information is helpful. I do not want to hurt Dominican College's reputation, but I wish this information was provided to me before I made the choice to attend this college.
