Here's the deal with PBU…

The faculty is awesome and very open. They legitimately care about you as a person (especially Prof. Allen). As someone who has been to 3 different universities I must say this is the highlight of the school.

As far as the education is concerned however, it's basically a glorified Sunday school. I had classes where I was taught the world was 10,000 years old and dinosaurs were only recently extinct in the past 100 years (yes I'm being serious). I was also shown pictures of fossils that had "dinosaur flesh" on them and was taught that there could be no such things as extraterrestrial life because the bible said so. If this type of stuff is something you would be interested in paying 10 grand for then by all means do it, but you can't fool me twice.

If you get an opportunity to live in the Penn Dell dorms - DON'T DO IT. PBU bought an old apartment complex which they made into dorms (which basically means you share an apartment with 4 other people). The area it's in is very dirty and isn't safe (there was recently an armed robbery - I'm writing this as of 2010).

PBU also feels the need to have a curfew (bedtime). You have to go to their chapel everyday, and if you skip they eventually charge you $10 per missed service (and the dude who used to teach it got fired for cheating on his wife - go figure. I should demand my money back). You will not be allowed to be alone with a member of the opposite sex and there are no parties at PBU. Most of the students are home schooled or live in a complete bubble and have no true understanding of the world or how it works. Most of these students are completely wrapped up in their closed minded views of God (which are all surprisingly different) and bicker about it with each other often. Some of the students are in some special program where they are mentally handicapped but still go to classes and do well (again, go figure).

If your religion comes before your education, PBU is a great place. If you're the type of person who doesn't mind being preached at everyday by almost everyone you meet, then PBU is a great place. However, if you want to study a science and not get laughed at by everybody with a real education then don't go here.
