The university overall is okay. Depending on your department, the faculty can be quite worthless or tremendously helpful. There is an incredible honors program, it is/was the largest in the state and maintains a very good reputation. The campus is nice aesthetically for the most part and the students, although not the smartest, are friendly. The lack of school spirit is overwhelming and provides for a generic, boring atmosphere. Really no social life to speak of. Sports programs are fun and usually productive, but the student sections are always empty. Ultimately, you will find a good education, but dont expect to find much else. The largest drawback to the school is the city around it. A crumbling, crime-ridden cesspool of ignorance, memphis is a city divided by race, and if youre not from the midsouth, do NOT consider this school. As a native, it is home, but it has to have one of the lowest IQs in the nation. All this rubs off on the school and its truly sad. However, it is the largest city around (TN, AR, MS) and undoubtedly provides big-city attributes and there is good culture to be found.
