Major: Social Work (This Major's Salary over time)
When I applied for graduate school, the GSU workers were incredibly and unnecessarily rude. They also misplaced some of my paperwork, and then due to their own error, they had my application marked as being late. I found the entire school to be unorganized and uncaring. Elevators were constantly out of order, which I know is in violation of the rights of the disabled. The school also offered no support to departmental organizations who were trying to promote the school. I found that sad. The Social Work Graduate department admitted and passed students who could not read past an elementary level, acted out, behaved disrespectfully to professors, and tried to stir up trouble among other students. I have never seen more immature and unprofessional graduate students in my life, and that they were admitted and even allowed to graduate is unbelievable to me. In the professional work field, I have discovered that this school has a terrible reputation, but I can see why when these unprofessional students go out to get professional jobs. I cannot imagine having some of these students as social workers. Quite a few of the professors are also incompetent, but not all. Some of the professors in the Social Work department know less about the subjects they are teaching than their students. Some cannot pronounce many common words used in the profession. Others are competent but use class time to ramble about their own problems and lives rather than to teach. I do not feel that I gained anything from my experience at GSU except frustration and a loss of faith in people. I felt sick each day that I attended class and had to put up with the immaturity and unprofessionalism among both faculty and students. I am a good Social Worker today because I am professional, because I care, because I studied hard outside of class to gain the knowledge I needed, and because I sought situations to give me experience and chances to learn, not because of GSU.
