Major: Religion/Religious (This Major's Salary over time)
Salem College is a joke, an old one at that.Academics: Classes are very easy and do not require much work in any department. Whether it be Psychology, Spanish, English, etc, no classes at Salem provides you with relevant and up-to-date information. After you graduate, you will have just wasted four years of time and money on the over-priced tuition. It will be very hard to get a job in your field or become successful in graduate school. Liberal Arts as they claim is not the same as liberal arts in other highly regarded schools such as Davidson or Wake Forest. It's an excuse the school administration uses in order to cover up the fact that they don't teach anything. I haven't learned anything in my classes and I got all A's in my classes. I still have no idea about the basic concepts from the intro textbooks for my major. The only positive thing about academics at Salem is that you can take classes at Wake Forest, which is ranked 25th in the nation. But you are allowed take only one class at a time. Sadly, classes you take at Wake are going to be the only real class with decent amount of work and challenges.Students: Students at Salem are mostly not quite smart. Some of them think they are. Talking about "rights" is rampant. Starting with women's rights to students' rights, many people learn to whine and protest instead of learning to objectively evaluate the given problem and finding the appropriate solutions. The school is old, so there are so many dumb traditions that takes up your time and energy. If you are a serious student interested in "learning", you should not come to Salem. If you do, your interest will switch to something like looking for your future husband. One impressive thing about Salem is that the campus is very diverse and students with different backgrounds get along with each other very well. The campus is somewhat beautiful, but mostly because the buildings are old as dirt. There are many tourists, but don't let them fool you: they are high school students interested in going to school here, but they are mostly old folks who got nothing to do visiting the Historic Old Salem. The dorms are small and smelly and infested. Many of the facilities don't work because they are old and school doesn't have money to fix them immediately. The food service is terrible: food taste terrible and unhealthy, hours of operation is terrible (no dinner after 6), price-tags are heavy on meal plans.Overall, Salem College is a failure. It used to be one of better schools for women in the South. I know this because all the women in my family went here for college. They went to a different school than where I am going to. Better off going to a community college.
