At first, I thought Francis Marion University was a good choice for me. But, gradually I started finding out about all sorts of problems that students suffer from. Here is a quick list:

1. Less than 10 % of the admitted students graduate from FMU within 5 years. Due to the overwhelming student disatisfaction, most of them transfer to other schools or drop out within the first year.

2. There is a lot of crime taking place at fmu. People come from outside campus to buy drugs and cause fear among students.

3. There is discrimination against black people everywhere. If you are black, you will be treated like a criminal everywhere.

4. The president's position was never advertized; thus he was hired illegally. Many professors left the university because of that.

I am finding out ever day shocking secrets about this place; so I am getting concerned and I am transfering to another school. My advice, if you are looking for a school, I would suggest to avoid FMU. But, the choice is yours…… Good Luck.

responseThis review is full of bold faced lies. Complaint 1: Only 10 % graduate? How is it the school admits just under a thousand a year and each year graduates 600 plus students? In my time there, I found that many students came TO FMU from other schools because it has an outstanding rep. Complaint 4: If you are a second year student, how would you have been there when President Carter was hired. He came to the school in 1999, the year I arrived at FMU as a student. He replaced a president who undermined the faculty and staff and had done so much to restore the confidence of the people who work for the school.
responseI disagree with the respondant here because he/she provided no evidence to support his/her rebuttal. 1) I was a student at fmu when Dr. Carter came and I know his position was never advertized. If you disagree about that, show me the evidence. 2) The previous president did alienate faculty; but that doesn't justify why would Dr. Carter be hired illegally. 3) When I was at fmu in the year 2002, more than 85% dropped out or transfered within the first year. Again, you are not showing any evidence to prove the opposite. The university does not provide any information for the public in this regard for a very good reason. My 2 cents!!
responseYou say that I have provided no evidence, but neither have you. You have nothing to support your claims in either the original post or your response According to you, the school had 850 students drop out or transfer in their first year there out of a class of 1000. I will admit the graduation rate is absurdly low, but then again its like that in all of the states 4 year school that are located in rural locations. You still can not substantiate that he was hired illegally. When I applied to the school in 1998 a committee made up of the board and faculty members were in the process of selecting a new president. What makes you claim he was hired illegally? Just because FMU doesn't make a giant deal over the fact they need a new president and do so quietly isn't a major issue.
commentWow!!!!!!! I didn't know there was an option for discussion in StudentsReview. Now to the point that I want to make, the fact that dr. Carter's position was never advertized is quite known at FMU and the community. I remember there was a mention of that in the Newspaper; but in South Carolina, it's no big deal. On the other hand, how could you (Dr. Carter) ask me to produce an evidence of something that didn't take place. It's up to you to provide such an evidence because you are claiming that it did take place. Isn't there a name for this in philosophy? Welcome to the Pee Dee logic. That's why FMU students don't get jobs.
responseIn regards to the search being illegal. Read the article below.
In regards to graduation rates…look at the site below.
You asked for proof…there are have it.
BTW…as for being called Dr. Carter…that's pretty funny.
responseIf you think what you provided is an evidence, you should be really finding a good school where you can learn some of the foundations of research … You definitely deserve a badge for being such a good representative of the PeeDee Scholarship!!!
Find it funny that you are going to be critical of something that at least gives some level of support to my statement…and yet I see nothing to support the allegations made in the original comment.
