Well, a positive review. I can't help but notice they tend to be shorter and go into far less detail than the negative ones. Well, good for you that BJU actually did something positive in your life. I would not want the type of character-building rulesthey have at BJU imposed on me, I will tell you quite honestly. I want nothing to do with that college's definition of character… whatever they think it is.No. No, indeed, BJU is not for everyone. It is, in fact, not for anyone except the type of people who founded it: right-wing fundamentalist Christians who, in most cases, have been raised to live this strict way their whole lives. I also think you got your comment about BJU being "a place where you are expected to live up to your word and are held accountable for your actions" confused with, I dunno, West Point or VMI. I do agree a place where you are expected to keep your word and are held accountable is rare in the world of 2012/2016, but I would emphatically state that I do not believe BJU is such a place. The one BJU grad I have ever met was a close-minded and petty (though superficially friendly and professional) individual who was absolutely unable to function outside of his own BJU-oriented, cloistered world. Maybe you turned out a little better than that, and that's good.I was unaware much had changed at BJU from 2012 to 2016 but maybe you'd know that better than I would.I looked up BJU on Wikipedia and examined the list of noted graduates. Out of some 43 I counted on the list, nearly ALL were pastors or evangelists or otherwise had chosen careers heavily focused on Christianity somehow. Those that did not were almost exclusively politicians, lawyers, and the occasional author. Oh, and a farmer. That was it. Nothing else. Compared to the titanic list of distinguished graduates from West Point, VMI, the Ivy League Colleges, the University of Richmond and many others, BJU does not even rate a comparison. It is nothing but a silly little legalistic fundie college for people raised to be Bible-thumpers all their lives. BJU and its graduates do NOT compare well against other colleges that are more plugged in to the world as it is today. That is not inherently a bad thing, the way BJU seems to think it is. |

Major: Perfomance Arts (This Major's Salary over time)
I went to BJU because of the academics and the character-building rules. I graduated from BJU and use many of the lessons learned daily. BJU is NOT for everyone, but it is a place where you are expected to live up to your word and are held accountable for your actions. Such a place is rare in our society. I learned the skills to function in a diverse marketplace of ideas. Although many rules and policies have changed since I graduated I would encourage future students to look at BJU grads in the world and see how they compare against other schools.
