This "institution" has left a horrible taste in my mouth. When people ask me where I went to school, I just say, "some place in Jersey, and I really don't want to go into much more detail than that." I'm a firm believer in the fact that most things in life are what you make of it, and though it wasn't my first choice in schools, and my impression of it didn't really improve as time went on, I still believed I could make a life for myself there. It has an incredibly lazy student body so hard work sticks out like a sore thumb. I was the freshman that joined every organization and wanted to propel it to become the best organization on campus. The one I was elected president for, I did just that, but if you want any sort of student participation for any events you have planned, you're going to have to come up with some pretty brilliant marketing or become friends with the entire student body to gain their support. Perhaps the most frustrating thing was the unchallenging nature of the classes. If you expect me to come to class, I expect to learn something. There's nothing more frustrating when you are busy and go to class just to have them teach you how to use the library… I don't know how many times I spent a whole class, sometimes more, on a tutorial of how to utilize the library. This was in my undergrad and my grad classes, as well. If you don't know how to use the library at this point in your education, you have no reason to be there! Ok, there were a lot of international students so maybe they did need the tutorial, in which case, I can understand doing one freshman year in that "freshman seminar" class, but that's it. Also, where's your initiative to go to the library and learn yourself? Why waste everyone else's time? I made the mistake of continuing my education there. They offered me a free MBA, how could I say no? Though, looking back I should have. I was SO unchallenged during my masters program I went looking for ways to actually learn something on my own. I found programs in Hawaii, California, and NYU to try and take a class in winter or spring break or even just during my school year for credits to add to my degree, but when I presented it to the associate dean, it was rejected. And my advisor actually sat me down and said to me, "Do you really want to do this? It looks like a lot of work." YES! I do! It was just an absolutely ridiculous "school" that just likes to play school. I don't recommend this experience for anyone. It was expensive and I wish I had just gone to a state school where there was a football team, active students, and receive a good education. It doesn't have to be great but good. Because out in the real world, unless you went to an ivy league, and sometimes even if you went to an ivy league, it doesn't make much of a difference. It mostly comes down to your personality and whether or not the person hiring you could see themselves spending 40+ hours a week with you. Good luck.
