Simple advice..find a better school. It took me a year to realize how much this place doesn't prepare you for the real world. Therefore I transferred and I'm hoping you decide to look somewhere else. The school is essentially one small hallway. Including mediocre recording studios, a keyboard lab from the '70s, and classrooms with desks from the '60s. The place is a for profit school..and when I say that I mean the school sees hardly any of that money. The president and his lawyers get most of it (for his extensive lawsuits he has going on with family and the town). If you have the unfortunate luck of having to live on campus then be warned. The food might take a couple years off your life and there are little to no activities. The music staff are quite friendly. I did enjoy my classes..mainly cuz you can pretty much sleep through all of them and still make the dean's list. If you're looking for a challenging school that will prepare you for the music world..this isnt really the place. If you're looking for a day care then this is the place to be. But college is what you make of it really. I had some fun times and some annoying times at FTC (mostly disappointing). This just wasnt the place I thought it was advertised to be.

responseThe school is renovated out of an elementary school building, yes. The keyboard lab is being fought to be updated, and the studios are classrooms first, and far better than "mediocre." Being a first year student, you likely only worked in B, which is designed to be usable, but at the same time, many of the students have never touched a piece of a equipment, so they are not going to let you work on the most expensive console if you're more likely to break it. The schools lists itself as "private, for profit", so that information is not hidden, and yes, campus life could use a huge boost, but none of that will be done if the students do nothing about it.

Also, a music career is what you make of it. The teachers, from my experience, have been more than willing to talk after class and further discuss ideas. If the class had been too easy, you are able to test out of it and move on. I'm sure you would have noticed the students that did not do so well in classes, while you yourself may be above the curve.
