I graduated 25+ years ago and our complaints then were identical, for the most part, to what I am reading here. The fact of the matter is this: IF you graduate and IF you go into the industry (these are two big IF's) then Maritime is an outstanding school to be from. I was a typical cadet in the mid-80's, I had average grades, a lot of demerits, I spent most of my time getting drunk, chasing skirts and hating every minute I was there. I had eight room mates in my eight semesters, none of whom graduated with me. That being said, my classmates and I are now in our late forties and many of us are now captains, chief engineers, senior level executives, etc. I have run into class mates and alumi in all for corners of the earth and, although it pains me to say this, Schuyler had a profound positive impact on me professionally. The marine industry can be very lucrative and graduation from Maritime offers you entree into the club. The trick is to make it to graduation.
