Whenever possible do review professors assigned to classes before picking up a class. They have some dedicated and wonderful teachers, but they also have some who really just aren't - and it's your dollar and your future courses resting on what a present instructor does or doesn't teach.

Be aware that while courses are cataloged and offered with what appears to be a clear and researched definition and statement of prereqs, they are not necessarily. Base your sense of preparedness to take a class also on past StudentsReviews and advise rather than just CCD catalog descriptions and requirements.

Be aware also that depending on the instructor, you may be signing on for the stated class hours and study, or be committing to additional unlisted expenses and class activity time outside and beyond noted class and study time. These additional time/expense requirements may only be fully apparent by the 2nd or 3rd week - so remember if that's the case, and you can't adjust outside obligations, you may have to drop the course, swallow the cost for it, and take it later.

Financial aid department is notoriously blogged and complained about. It will fall on the student to check, verify, press for further, press for resolve and or corrections etc.

If you have guaranteed 24/7 internet access and do well with the online style of instruction, the campus is moving more and more to online even in campus based courses. Campus based classes often now require (not just offer as an option) purchase of online homework products and access to internet in order to work and submit classwork. This may not work well though if you live or work in areas where internet service is not so guaranteed available and accessible. The products are also rigid and can be difficult and time-consuming to use.
