I have a whole lot to say about this school so I will give you the complete breakdown as to why I'm giving this school the negative review I'm giving it. The first thing I should tell you is that there are two types of students who go here: The ones who have the money and time to waste to go about campus drunk and high all the time. The other type of students that go here are the ones who unfortunately were unaware of how horrendous this school really is before enrolling there. The main problem with this school is that they tell you to take these so called core requirements, because if you don't take them you won't graduate.

The problem with this system is that you don't know who will be in your class, or what type of professor you will have teaching you. I had one student in two classes my first semester and in both classes he would disrupt class to talk about the drinking problem he had. When my one of my professors told him she knew he had a drinking problem he became defensive, and surly towards her. Another student I had class with my fifth semester would show up 10-15 minutes late everyday, and one day she showed up with her nose bleeding. So as usual she made her grand entrance 10-15 minutes late in front of the whole class and announced to everyone and I quote:

My nose is bleeding it must be from all the cocaine I've been snorting!
Now tell me are these the type of students you want to have to deal with everyday?

If the students in this school don't have you running as far away from it as possible, then the professors will more than likely have you doing so. I had one professor who couldn't wait to leave Dowling so she could teach at Hofstra University. I remember how she'd gloat rather sadistically about how when freshmen students would ask for directions she'd give them bad directions on purpose. I don't know how this so called professor even received a job at Hofstra the class that she taught was a total BS class called Fundamentals of Speech. All you had to do was write one speech and present it in front of the whole class. And this is the type of teacher that Hofstra wants teaching it's students? No wonder Hofstra has as many negative reviews as it has! So I feel sorry for the students at Hofstra University who have to suffer through a semester with Patricia Posthauer. So if any Hofstra students are reading this review right now don't take any classes with her. You won't learn anything from her, and she'll get an attitude with you if you ask her too many questions that she doesn't want to be bothered to answer.

I had another professor who was the Director of the Theatre Club. I joined the theatre club because I was interested in being an actor, unfortunately she wasn't interested in supporting me or encouraging me in anyway. Considering that I was the only student who was working through injury at the time, and considering that I only had three weeks to learn my lines, two weeks if you count the fact I was injured for the first week. I was in a car accident and my bottom lip was busted open so I had to have stitches on my bottom lip for a week after that. The thing that upset me the most about the Theatre Director is that she singled me out in front of the whole Theatre Club because according to her I was "fussing too much." Are you kidding me? I'm the one person working through injury and one of your students was rude and disrespectful to me telling me: "If you don't want to be here you should just go home." But I'm the one you single out for fussing too much? Yeah that was some of the bullshit I had to deal with in this school. So don't join the Theatre Club especially if Kimberly Poppiti is still the director of the club. I'm sure she hasn't seen the error of her ways and never will. She is a doctor after all and well do I really need to say anything more after giving you that information about her? Her husband's a lawyer but works as a teacher for Dowling as well. That's right her lawyer husband has a job as a teacher in this school too, you'd think being a hot shot lawyer would pay him enough but I guess some people are never happy with whatever money they make or steal from other people.

One other professor I had tried to fail me for a class because according to her, I didn't pay to see this stupid show even though I did pay she just didn't bother to keep better track of who paid and who didn't. That's right she decided to take my class to Manhattan on a school night since it was convenient for her because she lives in Brooklyn. What about all the other students who live in Suffolk County and have to travel that much further on a school night to see this show? The show that she took us to was the stupidest, idiotic, pointless, moronic display I have ever seen in my life. All the actors that starred in this show did was scream and curse at each other for an hour and a half. To add even more insult to injury she had us write a paper on this show, and then when she noticed how many people criticized the show she complained about how we shouldn't have done that. What shouldn't have happened is that you shouldn't have asked us to write a paper on the show, or have us write any papers for your class considering you never handed back any papers we handed in to you. What's the point of assigning us papers if you're not going to grade them, and we're not going to know how we are doing in class? That's more sampling of the neverending crap you have to deal with in this school. A lot of these teachers teach these filler classes that you won't learn anything from, however they'll still assign you tons of papers so you have plenty of busywork to hog up your whole day. If you want to know the professor's name who tried to fail me her name is Liz Sherman. She is another teacher you should avoid if you value getting your money's worth when it comes to being better educated, and more informed with the world around you.

Some other problems you will have with this school are that if you ever have to work in groups with people BEWARE! You don't know whether these people are thinking of the group's best interests or their own best interests. I have never been in so many disagreements or arguments in all my life until I had to work in groups in Dowling College. Out of the nine or ten times I had to work in groups with people seven of the nine or ten times I worked in groups with people I had a disagreement or an argument with someone. There were times where I was able to get people to listen to what I had to say by arguing, then there were times I couldn't get them to listen to what I had to say. I almost forgot there were times where the arguments became so bad the teachers had to get between us because they knew I had all that I could take from the pompous, self-righteous, self-important, self-centered, obnoxious, condescending, ornery, disrespectful, unpleasant, insufferable, incorrigible students in this college. I even had one professor force one group I was working in to write a paper on a bunch of cartoon looking cows! She claimed that it was a video her three year old daughter liked. So you have college students write a paper on something a three year old enjoys? Oh yeah that makes a whole lot of sense! I was in a disagreement with one student in that class about what the cows were doing only because this student was as miserable and as unhappy as most of the other students in this school. She seemed like the type who just wanted to get over on people anyway that she could and stick it to someone anyway that she could. She came to class one day talking about how she saw an episode of the Today Show and noticed that Katie Couric was sitting in her chair lower than Matt Lauer. She then claimed that she wrote a letter to the Today Show asking why Katie Couric sat lower in her chair than Matt Lauer. She implied that the network was a misogynistic network for having Matt Lauer sit higher in his chair than Katie Couric.

That's how abrasive and argumentative most of the people who you work in groups with will be like, and that's one of the reasons why I'm warning any students who are thinking of going here to do otherwise. The students who you work in groups with will shoot down any ideas that you have just so they can get their own ideas across. You will have to fight, and argue, and make a scene in front of the whole class to get your ideas across. Believe me it's what I had to do to get my ideas and opinions across without having them get shot down by the dickhead students that you're stuck working in groups with. Working in groups has to be the worst thing about this school because most of the people I worked in groups with were the most backstabbing, competitive, cutthroat people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

There's one more piece of information I should tell you about this school. When they tell you there job placement rate is 96% DON'T believe it! Most of the students that go to this school already have jobs but they won't get any jobs after graduating from this school. Think about it when this school forces you to take so many filler classes you won't learn anything from such as classes where you have to write papers on people cursing and yelling at each other for an hour and a half, or cartoon looking cows that a teacher's three year old daughter watches: Is it any wonder why no employer will want to hire you after you graduate? And is it any wonder that you won't get a job in the real world where you will have to actually be skilled, and talented in? I guess that explains why this school's transfer/dropout rate is 80%. It also explains why they've been through four presidents in six years and are about to fire their latest president. Oh yeah and one of their ex-presidents is suing the school on top of that! Their enrollment has declined so much over the years that they have lost grants, and their enrollment is as low as it was back in 1989. So do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this school as you can. Don't make the same mistake myself and so many unsuspecting, uninformed students made by wasting their time, energy, money, and resources going here. You can do better than this so called college and there are cheaper schools than this piece of shit school so you should enroll in those instead and save your money.
