I was very excited for this Vet Tech program. I was eager to learn and experience the program to its fullest. Unfortunately, I despite doing everything correctly, the staff treated me rather coldly.

I am hardly fresh-out-of-high-school, yet I was treated as such. This is the first time in my life in which I was not trusted. I recognized the mistakes I had made regarding my academic success, however it seemed as though I was being subtly pushed out from the start.

I applied for the college in January of 2012 and moved to Glenwood Springs in June. When I came for Vet Tech registration, it turns out—this is good guys—THEY LOST MY APPLICATION. And they hadn't processed my FAFSA, and therefore had to scurry for money from my low-income family. Stay classy, CMC.

Yes, I was angry, and rightfully so. My family and I struggled for over a month with money issues while CMC took their time processing my financial aid. I finally received the money in October. Not only that, but aside from having to work double the shifts at work to help provide for my family, apparently the CMC staff was gossiping to my professors about how I had allegedly been lying about my situation. Fantastic. Stay classy, CMC.

I was optimistic going in, but it was clear that I was not welcomed. I was tired and miserable all the time, and believe me that most of the peers you will find here are not the brightest or the most mature. They are egotistical and rude, and will treat you like you are inferior.

In my backwater community college, I had no issues with financial aid, with classwork, with professors, or with peers. This is the first conflict I have had of this manner: good education versus horrible interpersonal conflicts. It was a tough decision, considering I hate quitting, but the Vet Tech program at CMC was as unhelpful, albeit more friendly, than the people who were in charge of my registration and financial aid. The education was good, but the people are not.

I think I'll take my opportunity at completing my teaching degree instead.

responseYour opinion on the vet tech program sounds like sour grapes to me. Sorry you couldn't cut it. The Vet Tech program at CMC is certainly intense. Don't be so upset though… you are in the majority failing to complete the program. As a rising sophomore, I must say I am glad the program is designed to "trim the fat" making my degree more valuable upon graduation. If you can't hang with the rigors of this program, then I would not want to have you working in my animal hospital.
Also, you should try to get over your arrogant "right" to be inherently trusted by people who do not know you well. Adults should not be granted unearned trust in life.
By the tone of your review, I may be able to guess why your peers were uninterested in socializing with you. You have left a bad taste in my mouth just from reading your nonsensical dribble. success in school/life = no whining & no excuses
responseI also notice that your negative comments were made just weeks before the end of your first semester… that's all the confirmation necessary that you were upset about performing poorly. Was this the first time you have tried something and not been successful? That can be difficult. I have gotten mad and blamed other people for my failures at times too. It is only human.
responseIt's hilarious of the both of you to assume that this is my first degree and that I am somehow at fault for the behavior of these people. Nice try with the belittlement and assumptions that /I/ did something wrong.

For anyone considering joining the program, these are exactly the types of people you will encounter. Classy, right?

I'll see you when I graduate from my Bachelor of Biology degree AND am accepted into a DVM program.

responseAfter reading all of these comments I truly agree with the comment above I understand that the hands-on experience at CMC vet tech is helpful in the field however it is not a requirement in the state of Colorado to become a credential veterinary technician so to treat students as if they are not good enough because they did not finish the program says volumes about who you are as a person. Like you said this program is hard as well as working in this field so why would you want to put somebody else down? You should be nothing but motivational and inspiring because without people pursuing this career we would have no credentialed veterinary technicians. I think that you put others down who haven't graduated from the program because it makes you feel better like you're more important because you made it through that's great that you made it through the program however I guarantee that the people that did not went on to do other things while you will always be this person. A person thst can't be happy or feel accomplished with themselves unless they put other people down and that is the exact reason I hate CMC vet tech program. Both the teachers and the students treat each other as if they are highschooler's acting nice at work and then being rude outside of work. There is a certain level of respect that should be used within this program and is not. There is no direction or help from the teachers if any problems should arise and when It does it is not handled accordingly and takes forever this is the worst experience I've ever had at a college and I have been with CMC for over three years I would never go back to the vet tech program though I DID PASS! so let that be a note to all of you who are making this girl feel less than she is because there are people that passed that program and yet want nothing to do with it ever again and have nothing but bad stuff to say about it! those that do you have good things to say about this program are generally what I would like to call favorites which seems to be a common trend a Colorado Mountain College vet tech program if you are one of the favorites you are destined to pass but if you pass the course remember you may not pass the test so again why would you make anyone feel bad and why would you not read this and answer with a nice response saying I enjoyed my experience here versus attacking the original poster ?again this says volumes about who u r and how that programs shapes people. thank you for proving my point as to why I will never go back or recommend the vet tech program at CMC to anyone ever again because the teachers and the students act like the post above as if they're amazing when really there a commodity anyone can be one and that's why they're so upset because they work so hard in a program that doesn't appreciate them for a state that doesn't even require them to have the certification. If you want an experience on how to work with people who act like children and treat others badly while building themselves up then the vet tech program at CMC is for you if you would rather learn exactly what you need to know for your job with people that actually do it every day and don't judge you but appreciate your enthusiasm look elsewhere because the teachers there and the students will do nothing but put you down and after you made it through it all that's all you remember at least it was for me
