I have been waiting 5 years to write this review.

I wanted to get through the entire 4 years to get a full ense on this school…&now that I have graduated, I have quite a lot to say:

If you're thinking about applying to Whittier College, save your fee, your college essay & your time.

I URGE you.

Unless you're an athelete. Then, go right ahead, because you will be treated differently from everyone else.

As a high school senior, I recall being so so excited to attend such a different college. Whittier packages itself as an 'out of the box' sort of school, which is total bullshit.

Whittier promises so much good, but is so so bad. Whittier promises to use LA as it's classroom, which is oh so different from other schools… Yes, some professors do use LA to teach. People like Professor Carbine (the male) & Professor Holmes…but that's it, in my 4 years. A high number of professors simply use their textsbooks as their main way to teach. I don't know about you, but I can certainly read. I can easily go to a library, & check out the same book, & teach myself. I am not paying a ridiculous tuition (which raises each & every year to a crazier price) for some professor who's too lazy to actually engage students to teach me about 'cultural practices'. Learning at Whittier is THEORY based. I rarely ever got any hands on learning, as Whittier promises to so many students. If you enjoy sitting in a classroom, listening to a teacher read out of a book, leading meaningless class discussions, then this is the place for you! OH & VIDEOS. SO MANY DAMN VIDEOS. I have netflix, thanks. I am not in high school anymore. I am paying 40,000 dollars for someone to press the play button. I feel completley cheated, & am now kicking myself for choosing Whittier College.

You can ask many of it's students in their upper level classes. Many simply chose Whittier because of how much money was offered, but now wish they would've transferred.

Whittier also calls itself a 'hispanic serving instutuiton", so if you are of hispanic heritage, you too wil get treated great here!

If you're planning on coming to Whittier for an arts degree, move on, please! Save yourself. The art department doesn't offer very many classes, & the teachers are very unsupportive. Not 1 art professor came to my senior project in art…not 1. Thanks for the support! I found the art professors to be pretty close minded. If it wasn't what they liked, then you get a low grade. Definitley what art is all about…right?

The atheletics department get ALL of the money. They just got a brand new pool, a whole new gym, & all of the support from admin & it seems like the school. Even though we are a division III school, & we loose many of our competitions.

I have nothing against sports, as I was an athlete in High School, but it's ridiculous. I cannot tell you the lat time any of the arts got any sort of support from the school, besides a facebook status here & then. Not the music department, not the art department, & certainly not the theatre department.

I double majored in Art & Theatre Performance, so yes, I spent alot of my time in the arts. In fact, the only good thing I can say about the school is the theatre department was the only positive experience. Although small, at least the professors were supportive. Gil Gonzalez & Jennifer Holmes made my time at WC worthwhile. They at least used the actual Out of the box thinking that the school prides themselves on.

Don't even get me started on societies. They are the other ones who get alot of money, & alot of control. If you like exclusivity, & paying for friends, then please, join one of these societies! The paragonians are the only society, in my opinion, that are approachable & friendly. The others adore hazing, & lots & lots of drama 7 drinking. Isn't that what sisterhood & brotherhood is all about?!

This is a completley apathetic place. The business office doesn't really help anyone, ever & are often quite rude. The finanacial aid office doesn't care if you have to drop out, because they repeatedlytake away money to give it to who? oh, another incoming athelete. AWESOME. They may offer you a lot of money, but believe me, sophomore year, that will go away & your parents or whomever will have to pay more out of pocket. Not only that, but the tuition & student body have increased a ridiculous amount!

When I began at whittier, we were at 1300 students. It was great because our average class size was about 12-15. Now? They have surpassed 2000 students & are planning to accept more. In fact, they'd like to build a new dorm on one of the only parking lots we have…which means no more parking & fewer resources. GOOD LUCK.

Whittier College does not care about it's students, as a whole. They really just care about profit. Take the rock moving ten freaking feet for example. The administration rarely asks students what they would like done with the campus, or how they would like the school money to be spent.

& any support post graduation?! HAHAHA. The careeer planing service is a sorry excuse for a resource. If you're a business major, you've got plenty of opportunities. They never had any sort of internships/help for any sort of arts major. They certainly don't care after you graduate. Even if you beg them for some srot of lead on jobs, as I did. In fact, I never heard back from them.

The campus is pretty. I liked the theatre department, & I enjoy my work study. That's about it.

IT'S A SCAM.

responseThis review describes Whittier precisely. I too found out too late how God awful this place was. It's not a good looking campus at all. It looks worse than an inner city high school and even those schools are better maintained. The staff at inner city high schools are a lot more professional than any Whittier department.
responseI could not believe that all the power was given to the so-called athletes. They're not any good because they always lose their games. Or those groups called "societies"—mention any of their names outside of this school and no one knows what you mean, whereas if you mention a Greek sorority or fraternity, everyone knows what you mean. Whittier has got to be about the worst school in the world. The few good students who ever attend here just regret coming here for the rest of their lives. The teaching methods are horrible and so is everything else about this school.
responseYou sound bitter. I'm sorry you had a shitty experience at WC. Maybe you should have tried to be a little friendlier and not judged people based on what you "think" or "saw." Maybe people weren't nice to you because you were rude to them or didn't seem inviting? I had a wonderful experience at WC and yes, I was in a society. I am an approachable individual and I tend to be even friendlier to negative individuals, such as yourself.
questionI don't think that the initial reviewer is negative. She is speaking the truth. WC is one of the worst schools in the world. It doesn't even have AUTHENTIC sororities or fraternities. Whoever likes this school is seriously blind. If WC is a good or even an okay school, then why isn't it school famous and why is it always mistaken for a JUNIOR COLLEGE, then? And the mascot, the Poets? That's brainless, and so is everything else about the school. Even a junior college is better than WC, and so is their food. This school is HELL ON EARTH!
responseFor the above students who weren't happy at WC, you're right & I don't blame u. Some may say that it's not the school that's the problem, but it's ourselves. DON'T FALL FOR THAT BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!! It's the school that's bad, not u. I agree with the person above who said that everyone who has ever attended WC has just regreted it. Like another student said, people think that WC is a 2 year or trade school. You all should be used to the statement, "WC is a public 2 year school" and "If the students could afford a good school, they wouldn't be at WC." Any school is better than WC in every way, just read the newspaper rankings. I don't know of any school that's worse than WC, do you?
responseI didn't write this review, but I hope that the reviewer doesn't feel that she's NOT the only one who sees the truth about WC. I think that this school is just a scam that will take you if your check clears. To the society person who responded, why doesn't WC have the Greek system? I bet that if you say the name of your society to anyone outside of WC or to relatives of WC students, they haven't heard of it. But if you say the name of a Greek sorority or fraternity, people recognize the name right away. No one is impressed with WC or any of its programs.
response"I am an approachable individual and I tend to be even friendlier toward negative individuals, such as yourself." Well, EXCUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME, Mr. or Ms. Holier-Than-Thou. FYI, the student who wrote this review isn't negative at all. Those who don't think that Whittier has endless weaknesses is disillusioned. Whittier is as bad as it gets, just look at its academic and sports rankings from credible sources, which use hard data to rank the institutions. I agree with the first student's advice. Go to a real school instead of Whittier. You'll see that the other school is like heaven compared to Whittier.
responseThis school is God-awful. The dorms (if you can even call them dorms) are more than disgusting. The teachers are charlatans. The people who work in the health office aren't real health professionals, they're more like the aides in an elementary school. Whittier College sucks balls.
questionShowing endless videos, reading out of the book, and pointless class discussions? In college? Wow, that's horrible. Those are just a couple of reasons why Whittier College isn't a real college, it's more like an elementary school.
questionCan I ask what one of the respondents meant when they implied that you should be inviting in order to fit in at this horrible excuse for a school? Do you mean that in order to be inviting, you have to have sex with anyone?

I didn't write any of the above responses, but I had lots of reasonable complaints about WC so I transferred out to somewhere better. Junior colleges are better than WC, trust me.

responseI too want to reply to one of the respondents who implies that Whittier personnel was rude because maybe the original poster wasn't friendly or inviting. Students are paying money to attend this school, so the students shouldn't have to act a certain way. It should be the opposite. The personnel is getting paid, so they're the ones who should be friendly and inviting, not the other way around. Some students and alumni should go to many other campuses to see that their experience at Whittier is nowhere near as wonderful as the ones elsewhere.
responseThe business majors don't have any opportunities because no one is impressed with Whittier College. Employers and accredited MBA program admissions depts think that WC is a 2 year state-supported school.

No major at WC is any good. They're worse than 2 year schools. I agree with the original poster. Go somewhere else and have an actual college experience because WC is awful in every possible way.

responseIn the real world, you don't know how to answer when people ask what sorority or fraternity you pledged. This shithole is too lame for real sororities or fraternities.
