Major: Engineering Department (This Major's Salary over time)
Diploma Factory. If you expect any kind of quality education, go elsewhere. I literally studied less than 6 hours all semester and earned higher than 100% in all my courses (math and science). This school is designed to accommodate the lowest common denominator of student and does that quite well. I received extra credit at every turn and their grading system doesn't have minuses; 90% or better is an A. To prospective students, that is not a good thing. I was actually appalled that, on more than one occasion, a professor allowed the class to re-take an exam because the average was too low for their liking. If this was my first undergrad, I may have not thought much of it. But given that I have earned a BS from another major university and I understand academic standards, I knew how worthless a degree from here would be. I feel genuinely sorry for anyone in any science, technology, engineering, or mathematics major that thinks they will have anything even remotely marketable upon their graduation from this joke of a school. The faculty, however, was knowledgeable and helpful. They seemed to really know what they were talking about in the subjects that they taught (if you pressed them for explanation). It's just a shame that they have such low academic standards and never challenge their students in the least. I am transferring out of this diploma factory this Spring and will likely re-take all the classes that I took at DSU. Why? Because I didn't learn anything to the degree that I should have. An engineering major should probably have more than a slight understanding of Physics and not just the basic concepts. In the final exam review, some students didn't understand the direction of acceleration with respect to gravity! Finally, to anyone (especially any prospective science or math majors), STAY AWAY. Find another school. UD is a much better school (took a class there this summer) and will actually help you become a marketable asset. It does cost more, but your DSU alternative is just a complete waste of all the money you spend. If you want to party, waste money and learn nothing of value, then DSU is your school (Go Hornets!). If you want to land a good paying job upon graduation, please, I beg you, go somewhere else.
