Hello, I'd like to know more about your experience at Columbia, but now I am very curious about how your career is evolving. Did you achieve what you really wanted to do? I was being told that going to an art college is a waste of time since you can learn about art on your own, but nothing has never thrilled me as much as art. I'm also an international student (I'm planning on getting an american citizenship) but for now it'll be hard, but if it's worth it, I'll do it. The question is. Is IT WORTH IT? Thank you, Francesca |
It was def worth it. I just was a production supervisor on a film that competed at Sundance and just got done coordinating another feature that went through the Sundance film festival lab. So it is progressing fine but it truly comes down to networking and making as many connections as possible. But you will need to weed out people when you're in entry level classes because some people honestly do think a job will be handed to them… but you're in a film city. I am going back to school for a Masters though (personal choice) getting a degree in Accounting… So I can further my knowledge on the accounting side of film… Let me know if you've got any other questions. |
Major: Video/Media (This Major's Salary over time)
I was so nervous to attend Columbia College Chicago because of money (but compare it to NYU, UCLA, USC and other related schools w/ film majors) its a steal and for it being Private the money is perfect! (Its really the dorm cost that bites you in the butt)… Moving on when I went to Columbia I learned almost anything and everything about filmmaking (theory and hands-on). There are some negatives to Columbia like, some of the teachings teach you as if you've made it already in the industry… meaning I wish I was taught more entry level stuff as well as the top knowledge. ha Most people that write negative stuff on this school is because they didn't try at all. They expected a job to be handed to them… But that isn't how it works at ALL. At columbia you're around almost 4,000-6,000 filmmakers… NETWORK! I networked my ass off and was getting jobs on Transformers, Jupiter Ascending, Bad Johnson and a few tv shows in College! So when you're there make sure to absorb all information but NETWORK! THAT IS THE KEY! Otherwise, the campus is fun and most of the people are fun! I will never regret my time at Columbia…It was a great experience.
