I absolutely love this school. I went on 36 college visits and applied to twenty schools, and I basically lived on websites like this one to make sure that I was choosing the right school. It clearly paid off, as I couldn't see myself anywhere else. I am pre-med, and there is an overwhelming amount of support for that through clubs, peers, faculty (I had a job shadowing position within about a week of being here), and advisors. Everyone here is also extremely friendly, and I have never been at another school where everyone is this approachable. The housing ranges from some nice houses and dorms to older ones like Smith that are all quads. Whoever does roommate selection does a good job with at, as I know many more people who have become best friends with their roommate(s) than dislike them. There are so many opportunities for involvement such as clubs, volunteering, athletics (many intramural and club leagues for those not interested in varsity), and academic pursuits. All of my professors are very knowledgable, engaging, and fair in terms of their grading systems. The night life is really what you make of it. There are a lot of athletic parties, some smaller gatherings in dorm rooms, and parties at some of the houses. If you like going out there are definitely things to go to, but there are also opportunities for chem-free things if that's not your scene. Although most people go out, there isn't pressure to whether you just don't like doing so or if you need to take a night in to get some work done. Overall, it's a pretty perfect place and I'm so grateful that I'm here. However, obviously Bates isn't right for everyone so make sure you do a lot of research about whatever school you want to go to.
