I hear many people giving Clark a bad rap due to their own individual problems. If you ignore the fact that, yes Clark is just a little community college with a dry student life, you really get a great education here. Personally, one of the best community college experiences you'll get. Cons: Clark college is located in a very boring suburban city, but it's a city that grows on you. You're a 20 minutes drive from farmland and from the big city of Portland. You really do get the best of both worlds. Public transportation is crap so expect to drive to class and having to deal with limited parking (which is only a problem during fall/winter quarters in the mornings) unless you live close by. The school tries to have clubs and many different rec opportunities for students but they don't get much turn out. The social life is very dry. The students are are friendly but no one here seems to be fond of talking to other people. Don't come to Clark expecting to make a ton of friends, you won't. Pros: Although I've had a few bad teachers, the vast majority of them are amazing. These are teachers that love their field and they love their job and want to do anything in their power to see you succeed. I've never needed to meet with a teacher outside of class, but they always make it clear that they're available. All the classes I have taken have been very interesting, sometimes boring, but interesting. Many classes I have taken here have been incredibly easy, it seems like the teachers will feel bad if they give you a grade below a B-, this could be a pro or con depending on what kind of person you are. The classes are very diverse, especially in the age range (but what else would you expect from a community college). Having classes with students who are high school aged (running start) to students 40+ creates a lot of interesting discussion in the classroom. Overall, a great school and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get a general transfer.
