some come from sheltered homes and…is right. I had the good fortune (sarcastic) of dealing with just such a BJU alumnus for the better part of a year. This guy had never heard of things most people hear about by age 12, and he was in his 30s. He had no comprehension of anyone not exactly like his white-collar, screamingly white bread self. You write a fair review here. Sounds like you had a good experience with BJU. Many others who have written reviews on here have not, and I have to say, I nonetheless appreciate the fact that you neither seem to be a blind, flag-saluting, do-as-they-will BJU lover nor someone who thinks the negative reviews are all BS (though those two are often one and the same). My point being, you focused on your own experience and saying why you had a good experience there. This is probably one of the best positive reviews on here, because it is one of the first I have come across that doesn't describe BJU as a flawless place that is apparently better than Harvard. You just say you got some good things out of it and keep to that.I have strong doubts about the academics side of it, however, as BJU was not regionally accredited- the only one that matters for colleges, a national accreditation from a bunch of other Christian colleges is NOT a substitute- until, what, 2016 I think. Nearly its entire existence BJU has had pretty much no real accreditation at all. Furthermore, my impression was that BJU teaches that evolution is a lie, things like that. I gather the classes were challenging and useful to your satisfaction, but this place doesn't strike me as comparable to Yale academically.I can absolutely believe the administration at such a place might be close-minded. Oh, yeah. This is a fair review and I appreciate that you are neither claiming the place is flawless- many positive reviews of BJU on here do that- nor do you sneer at or dismiss anyone who has bad things to say about the school or their time there if they attended it. Thanks for writing this. |

Overall I've had a very positive experience during my time as a student. The faculty are superb and will bend over backwards to help you truly understand the material and try to give you every chance to succeed in your field. Most of the students are also very friendly and welcoming, though some come from very sheltered homes and have trouble understanding people with a "past" or understanding people who struggle with things like substance abuse. The academics are top notch and very challenging, and will prepare you well for your career. Administration can be a bit close-minded, and tend to stick closely to their policies and rules even if you have legitimate cause to request an exemption—but individually they are very personable, and overall try to make decisions that will improve your experience as a student.
