At the beginning of my freshman year of college, I met with my guidance counselor, who was also the department chair and a professor. While I wanted to take 12 credits a semester, he talked me into taking 18 credits, plus I had to work part-time because I was a broke college student and couldn't count on my parents for support. Since my guidance counselor didn't listen to what I wanted or needed, I ended up flunking out after the first year. In my opinion, he was just trying to get more money from me and didn't really care about me as a person.
