OUTHWEST Texas State, founded in 1899, is a public, comprehensive university.  Its 427-acre campus is located in San Marcos, 30 miles from Austin.

Texas State today is one of the most selective and diverse public universities in Texas.  We offer a challenging academic environment with accessible faculty who involve students in thinking through issues, and encouraging them to become lifelong learners.  Set among huge cypress and pecan trees lining a spring fed river, Texas State provides for an abundance of outdoor activities.  More than 250 student organizations utilize our state-of-the-art library, recreation center, and student center.  Texas State has a distinguished history now more than 100 years old and remains the only university in Texas to have graduated a United States President - Lyndon B.  Johnson.
