Bob Jones used to claim to be a non-denominational Christian University. I do not know whether they still make this claim, but be aware that you will fit in at BJ only if you are a dispensationalist, independent, fundamentalist Baptist.

In addition, the BJU is unaccredited which will affect your ability to get into graduate school. Not all schools will deny BJ grads, but some (including some, but not all, top schools) will return your application without consideration.

The recent publicity about the school's previous position on interracial dating, the Catholic church, etc will, in some quarters, reflect badly upon you if you attend this institution.

I recommend that you consider very carefully the fact that a degree from BJU can be a liability in both the professional world and in applying for graduate school before chosing to attend. I would not recommend that you attend BJU unless you are a dyed in the wool fundamentalist with no plans for graduate school.

To my knowledge they claim Baptist affiliation in 2017 and have for years now. However, there are numerous different Baptist groups and associations and BJU is not associated with most of them. That said you are EXACTLY right about what they really are and who will fit in there, and who will not. They're so fundamentalist it's insane.

This was true in 2001- that they were unaccredited- but sometime in the past they got a more or less worthless accreditation from a national group of Christian colleges to compensate, then finally gave up and sought regional accreditation in 2016.

I can say personally that the lack of real accreditation and the school's generally unsavory reputation among those who have even heard of it has been damaging for BJU applicants to graduate schools at universities in the outside world. Bad PR about BJU in the past will, I have no doubt, be a potential problem when a grad goes elsewhere for grad school or seeks a job.

That last paragraph is near priceless. I believe it to be completely accurate and agree with it entirely. You said it right. This place is for a VERY small, very narrow group of people and is pretty much openly hostile to change from the narrow-minded course laid out for it by its founders. Thanks for writing this review.
