Personally I feel that there are many entry points into the world of aviation. Embry-Riddle is simply the least cost effective. As a flight program it is a decent program, but it lacks organization in terms of scheduling. A friend of mine has been waiting almost 3 weeks for an IN-HOUSE checkride and there has been no evidence of it being scheduled in the near future. Because of this, his already limited progress in the program has been halted. In short, no matter how hard you work you are almost guaranteed to finish on THEIR schedule, not yours. The program is also very "cookie cutter" where flight training is not at all personal. I have been in the program for almost a semester and have been with at least 5 different instructors. They have an awkward scheduling system, where even your permanently assigned flight instructor has regularly scheduled off days during your flight blocks. Other than several other issues in the flight department that can be overlooked, the general college experience is well below par. I do not consider myself a partier by any means, but there is literally NOTHING to do on campus. It is sort of obvious that it is nearly 100% male, but it becomes even clearer when you have roomed on campus for 3 months. There are several very good instructors, yet there are plenty of professors that I would stay clear of. Ultimately, Riddle is a decent school, and it is definitely the shorter track to the airlines, but be warned after going through this program you may not want to fly. I personally still want to fly professionally, but if anything Riddle has guided me to understand what programs I do not want to be a part of.
