I really question why people take comments from the Queens College website about it being
ivy league education
and overrating it. I myself though queens would be that way , a high quality education with resources and a school on the rebound. That wasn't true, Queens College has dubious requirements in school, they mess up your curriculum sometimes, and while they do have a bit of knowledgeable coursework and faculty as a positive aspect, whether that translate into your doing well and going with a career in your life is doubtful.

Faculty, - Even if there is great faculty , they might not always be accessible or they might teach 1 class, and it may be a lab class or a training course (So much more the

look who's teaching at Cuny
ads- don't believe me? Even the knight news admits shortcomings).

Queens College is trying to be something it isn't, it isn't the worst Cuny school its much better than york, medgar evans, etc so I am not saying its a horrible school, but the curriculum isn't streamlined, it isn't following a path or well thought out. It seems that the curriculum sometimes beats around the bush. I did very well in high school, took challenging courses from ap classes, and getting a 1250 ( old sat scores) which wasn't top grade but not low either. I joined honors programs, and scholars programs. This was back in 2000 and now I still haven't graduated.

Queens College also suffers from a lack of resources , maintenance, and its location. Sure, it has a campus but the noisy crowded flushing and crowded buses make the place less ideal, expanding a few forms and a mere 200 parking spaces won't solve problems.

Queens College tries to view itself as a top-notch school by making the curriculum more "challenging" when all they are doing is giving your more work, but not more knowledge. This is true for other schools as well, cramming anything about sociology rather than having a streamlined curriculum that's well balanced with discussions, projects, research rather than just piling up essays about anything that's sociology to make it look challenging and vigorous is what Queens College is doing. They are alienating students by doing this, a lot of Cuny community college grads are reconsidering going to Queens College.

Perhaps, maybe Queens College should stop pretending its a school that its not and it will benefit everyone. I never see Queens College, admitting flaws, advertising is very heavy. Once again, it has its strengths but if you can look elsewhere . That being said, be careful about some private schools also, you don't want to spend thousands and be in debt, but there are many other public schools besides queens.

I would love feedback, there is a lot to do in Manhattan but not in flushing queens so much, crowded, noisy, etc its more as a shopping, transportation, apartment area. The above poster is right, people at Queens keep to themselves a lot, and there isn't much school spirit and things that get done at Queens, ie NYPIRG is known for not doing a lot when the come to QUeens, although their agenda is positive.

questionI was looking into attending this college through National Student Exchange. I am from California, attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I want to experience more diversity and make this exchange worth my time. Do you think it would be worth my time to attend Queens for a year?
