Gwinnett Technical College

I thought this school was a good choice at first because it was close to home and offered my program. I have previously attended an accredited college in another state and have an AA. GTC would not accept ANY of my credits from my former college, while attending I have learned that they do this because they are trying to get money by making you start over. My "advisor" was a not so friendly person, she made me feel like I was wasting her time while trying to obtain the proper direction to take for my classes. You can not reach ANYONE by telephone to gain help, the financial aid office is filled with incompetent people giving you incorrect information. Two quarters back to back the financial aid office had "no record" of me having aid until I had to jump through hoops and literally do their job to show them that I had financial aid. No one in that office uses common sense everyone is reading a screen. The only person in that building who is willing to help you, follow through and make sure your issues get solved is Casey Best.

I've attended GTC for 5 quarters. I originally made my decision to attend the school based on the Rad Tech program. Upon my acceptance into the school, I met with an advisor in order to plan out what classes I would need to take over the next few months to prepare me for entry into the program. Well, long story short, I've never received accurate counseling in that advisement office. I was totally misguided on deadlines and class scheduling. I was not in a position to even apply for the program after attending 3 quarters and will have to wait a YEAR( spring 2011) to apply. Meanwhile I've picked up a diploma program just so that i wouldn't be out of school for a year (what a nice way for them to get extra money, huh).

The other matter that tends to annoy me is that they (departments) are horrible about answering the phones, returning calls, and replying to emails. Before I was accepted I honestly didn't witness any of this, but once I became a GTC student this has truly been a pain. I don't live in the Lawrenceville area, I actually commute to school from the city of Atlanta. So it really frustrates me that anytime I need to get anything resolved, even if its a small thing like asking a question I have to drive all the way to Lawrenceville (when I'm not attending class) just for that. This has been the case for all of the following departments: financial aide, registrar, records, and admissions. I honestly am not sure why any of them have phones or emails because its clear to me that they don't use them!The only positive comment I have to make about GTC is that Ms. Casey Best is a great asset to this school and that she is the ONLY one I've met that really knows her stuff. if only they would employ more enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and resourceful people like her I would probably enjoy being at GTC.
