Gwinnett Technical College

June 17, 2010 at 1:30 I came into the Financial Aid Office at Gwinnett Tech. I did so because earlier in the day at approx. 11:45 I received a call from someone in the Financial Aid Office. It appears that I have been placed on financial aid probation but my grades are fine as well as my attendance. The representative told me she did not see any reason that I should be on "financial aid probation" and told me to come into the office to get this straightened out.

Well I was seen by the representative who sits in the second desk. She looked up my information and she also did not see any reason for me to be on probation. She told me several times she did not know. I then asked her was there someone above her who would know. At that time Stephen Whitaker came out of his office and told me that I just needed to go through the counseling. I again asked him why. My feelings were if there is no need for me to be on financial aid probation why should I have to feel out forms concerning this. In the middle of he and I talking he turned his back on me and walked away.

I told the young lady that was originally helping me that- that was very rude and I asked for Stephen Whitaker's supervisor. At that time he once again emerged from the office and informed me that he was going to get security. I asked him for what reason, he again said I am going to get security. He then walked out of the office. The young lady begged me to just fill out the forms and to leave before security had arrived. It appeared to me that she was very frightened of Stephen Whitaker. She then let me know that he was the director of Financial Aid. I told her that I did not care who he was and WRONG is WRONG.

I then asked her several times for his supervisor and she finally told me to fill out a complaint form which I did. A few minutes later a police officer entered the office. He did not question me or ask me to leave. I am guessing after Stephen Whitaker let him know that I did nothing wrong he could not say anything to me.

It is apparent to me based on the young lady's fear of Stephen Whitaker and the fact that he talked to me the way he did and then called security on me, he has issues with black people. After all of this my question was still not answered and I am very upset by this. It has caused me emotional stress not to mention the embarrassment of having security called on you for no reason in a public place. I had my child with me and she was also very scared

1st Year Female -- Class 2014

I've attended five quarters and was accepted into my program two quarters ago. The office staff is unskilled and are constantly making important errors that could result in students losing their financial aid, registration times, or taking classes at the wrong time. Their advisement is non-existent. If you go through the chain of command, those in higher positions support the office personnel and not the student. My program instructors refuse to admit when they are wrong, which has cost students letter grades. They are not fair or honest. They are rude and have little to no respect for the students (who pay their paychecks). BAD BAD school.
