Do not attend this school, it is a complete waste of time and money. I chose this school with the mindset that I finally found a creative outlet, but I was definitely wrong. Since attending this school I have lost any creative interest I once possessed and I have even grown sick of any artistic hobbies I had in the past. The teachers are poor at best. I doubt i've gained any knowledge after attending two semesters. I can't help but feel like i'm wasting my life. Dragging myself to class every day is harder than the school work (or lack of). The teachers are unsure of what they are teaching, some even read off of note cards the whole lecture. I've even had teachers admit they have no educational training and "may not being doing this whole teaching thing correctly." I've also had teachers that do nothing but brag about their successful artistic past. It is interesting to hear about your teachers passions and achievements, but all they are doing is constantly reminding students of their success while the students that attend this school work towards a failure of a future. Every moment spent here is a joke to me. The school decided to use a new online portal system that none of the staff know how to work. Grades are a mystery until the end of the semester. Although it is almost impossible to not do well here, I still found myself worrying about my assignments, wondering if they ever even left the teachers desk. I guess if you go far off the set path they lead you down, you CAN find success through this school, but if you want a serious education with staff that is actively working towards assisting you find a bright future for yourself, don't attend Columbia College Chicago.

DO NOT go here. I would absolutely give it zero stars, if that were possible. I went there for one semester and was abused by my roommates (to the point of having to go to the doctor) and then, when I tried to report it to the staff (all the way up to the dean) and get a different room, I was ignored and told that it was "part of the experience of having roommates". What a dump! It's too late for me to save my money, but it's not too late for you to save yours. DO NOT go here.

Since freshman year of high school, going to Columbia was my dream. I did countless tours, orientations, everything- it seemed PERFECT. When I got accepted, I was thrilled. I attended Fall of 2014.
First off, I want anyone reading this to really think about how much debt they want to be in when (or IF) they graduate. If you don't graduate, you're in debt for nothing. Columbia is a very expensive school, and I definitely regret going for a few reasons, the cost being one of them.
Anyway, the academics plain out suck. I understand it's an art school, but due to the very high acceptance rates, they have to teach everything as "dumbed down" as possible for the students who aren't as intelligent. (Not saying they're bad people, lots of them are amazingly talented and friendly) but this puts students who are looking for a quality education at a disadvantage. My major courses were very hit or miss. They require Art and Design students to take Making, Materials, and Methods, all of which were completely useless to my actual major. I took six classes (18 credits) first semester, and felt challenged in none of them. Even the ones I expected to be hard were a walk in the park. (If that's what you're looking for, great. I however, want to learn things) Overall, the education quality of this school is not too hot. As for other majors, I'm not entirely sure.
Students: Students here are generally pretty friendly, but I've noticed quite a few of them have a superiority complex. They think they're better than you, and they will definitely make it known. However, they're pretty easy to avoid once you have a good group of friends. This school is very accepting of LGBTQ, and every race. (A big population of students are LGBTQ) Overall, I'd say most of the students are friendly, just stay away from the snooty ones and you'll be fine.
Drugs/Alcohol: Drugs and alcohol at this school are VERY available. I was once offered acid standing outside my dorm. Quite a few students smoke weed in the dorms. I was fine with it since weed doesn't bother you, but if it does I would highly consider living off campus. (I do believe they changed their roommate matching this year though, so if they did you should be fine living on campus.)
Social life: Your social life will be what you make it. You're surrounded by a beautiful city. No matter what day or time it is, there are a million things to do.Overall, I loved the city, the school wasn't terrible, but it wasn't up to par academic wise.
