Mount Saint Mary College

Has anyone gotten into the traditional nursing program as a transfer student? When I applied to the school I was encouraged to apply for the traditional program instead of the accelerated because my grades will not get me into the accelerated because they review all your past academic history. However with the traditional, I start off with a fresh GPA in which they only consider new GPA at the school. In other words if I get a 3.5 this semester, they will use that gpa to evaluate my acceptance into the program. Right now I am currently taking chemistry and another religion course at MSMC. I was told by the admissions counselor that transfer students with 3.5 or above normally gets into the traditional program but I am worried because acceptance into the program for transfers are also based on space available after the freshman has been accepted. So if the freshman class does well and it all gets filled, I'm basically screwed. Im super nervous because I'm working really hard for this, i drive to the school every day, 1 hour going and one hour coming back home. So a total of two hours thats how bad I want it. Has anyone been in my shoes and has gotten into the traditional as a transfer student? what would you recommend? what was you experience like?

Its a pretty good school. The only thing that bothers me is the price of attendance. However, the cost is understandable because its a private school and everything about the campus is beautiful (except some parts of the surrounding city. Class sizes are small which is good. They have everything you need (writing center, tutors, academic coaches). The college truly does want you to succeed. I just wish the acceptance rate was a little lower to increase prestige. The college deserves more respect than it gets.

I'm glad I chose MSMC.
I will admit that at first I hated it. I was constantly coming home every weekend and wanted to transfer. The second semester however changed my mindset.

I am a biology pre-professional major. The workload is a lot and the professors expect a lot out of you - but isn't that expected? If you are going to be in the medical field, the classes should be hard and the coursework should be tedious as well. We go to college as students so that we can learn the best knowledge that will make us competitive and stand out amongst other candidates in our chosen future fields.

The classes are hard, but the professors are there to help. They are friendly and you get to relate with them on a personal level because of the small class sizes. If your professor provides extra help you should definitely go to it, it will only help you. The professors are mostly doctors, so they are going to give a lot of work but they aren't looking to fail you. They're just trying to make you smarter but you need to put in the work.

And with the amount of work that comes with pre professional majors, there is not a lot of time for free time. However, you can still party and do fun activities. I was able to go out almost every weekend, but you have to make sure you prioritize and are responsible.

As for the people at the college, there is going to be "high school drama" everywhere you go. Girls are bitches and guys are assholes. But don't be that person and you'll be fine. People will form into their groups and that's who they will mostly hangout with but some people are friendly and will talk to you on campus or during parties and maybe your "group" will expand.

Overall MSMC is a great school :)PS - Nursing majors probably have the most negative things to say about the college. They have tough classes in just their first year and the professors do not go easy on them. They do this to "weed out" the people that just don't want to be a nurse. If it's something you really want to do you HAVE to study hard, trust me.
