The University of Tulsa

I transferred to the University of Tulsa after enduring a horrific experience at a large state school. Although at the large university I was involved in the sorority of choice and several activities, I was unhappy there primarily due to the snobby students and poor academics. Transferring to TU was a wonderful decision. You get what you pay for. The students are so friendly here, although many are on the nerdy side. TU has many opportunities for students to get involved, although others are not shunned if they are uninvolved. The academics at TU are absolutely tremendous. Every professor I have had thus far, with the exception of one, has a PHD and is eager to teach students. I was shocked by the accessibility of the professors and their encouragement of students utilizing office hours. I highly recommend this university to any type of student. Although it is a small university, I feel that any individual would be able to fit in.

I was somewhat concerned about the competitive nature of law school, but found the students and faculty to be very supportive. While competitive the atmosphere was collegial and the college's size and atmosphere were perfect for me. I found the extra-curricular opportunities to be first rate developmental experiences which helped me in my job outside of the traditional legal fields.

Alumnus Male -- Class 2000

The University of Tulsa is on the rise, and it's going to show nationally here in a few years (the recent downturn of the basketball team may be making it a little easier to get in right now).

The campus here is incredibly attractive, and only seems to be getting better as time goes by. All of the buildings have a very uniform look and feel, and are all very pleasant to look at.

The engineering school is certainly top-notch, and the computer science department is doing quite well, and has a fair amount of money to spread around. I only wish some of the liberal arts departments could work on their reputations in order to help this university really stand out--everyone would gain from that. I think the history department, especially, could start offering Ph.D.s.

One of the areas the university needs to improve on is how to stand out, especially in a region where higher education is somewhat less than national quality. I think that be ramping-up in areas that are traditionally under-represented in this region, especially in Asian (East, Central, and South) Studies, languages, and history, would really help this place stand out. These types of programs are what separate "standard" universities from the truly great ones.

The students here are friendly, and many of them participate in extracirricular activities (flag football is hella-fun).All-in-all, this university is moving up, so come and grab on for the ride!
