ESU offers serious students the opportunity to do research in the right atmosphere. The school is currently expanding it's library and dorm space to further enhance it's capability to draw higher quality students. I like the fact that evening classes begin at seven which gives me enough time to finish my day job and get prepared for class.

Political Science

Rated one year in US News as the highest teacher to student ratio. Profs are overloaded with work to concentrate on students. Many Profs. are there who should have retired 10 years ago. They aren't in touch with the students needs. Most are just lost because on the Academic feeding chain they are on the lower rung of the ladder. Some quality Profs are there who found a niche and are happy with their lives. But this is about 1/2.

History/Histories (art history/etc.)

So far, I have found that courses listed in the catalog, the ones that really pulled me into the program, have not been taught frequently. In some cases, a course hasn't been taught in over 5 years (Medicinal Chemistry...). Assistantships are not readily available for the General Sciences Program leading to an MS. On paper, it looks like a really great interdisciplinary field of study, but in actuality the faculty is weakened by lack of funding from the state to foster solid, constructive graduate school growth. The faculty really does make an effort to retain students both in Chemistry undergraduate programs and in Graduate General Sciences. But the rotaion of class offerings due to lack of adequate staffing for teaching the upper level courses, and lack of research funding, seem to detract exponentially from the positive experiences.
