Because the school is so small (smaller than the high school I went to!)you really get to know the professors personally and they get to know and care about you as a person - that helps more than one can imagine when it comes to getting past those tough times in college where so many students just give up.
The only negative I can think of is that the surrounding community doesn't have much to offer and stands in stark contrast to (read: insular and highly conservative) the deeply inquisitive culture of the campus (asking people to learn about the world and really think about what they see will often lead people towards becoming more liberal). That said, even the negative of the campus surroundings (the peoplein the town)isn't all bad: if you love nature, this is a wonderful place to be! Within walking distance of the campus there are breathtaking cliffs overlooking the Juniata River, the River itself and a Maya Lin designed peace/meditation circle. A short drive away is Raystown Lake and all it has to offer.
Oh, and the town. Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area must be one of the worst places in America. It crappy, extremely run-down, lacking of any kind of meaningful culture or resources (unless you count Sheetz. They have two.), and frankly down right depressing.
The academics are good and bad. Most students enter as science majors and leave as social science or education majors. Apparently the science program is quite good, though. The faculty is decent overall. Most profs are friendly and accessible. Class sizes are small. Unfortunately, Juniata doesn't invest much money in anything other than its science program. That means everything else (all the other majors, all non-science academic buildings, all dorms) pretty much get neglected. The social scene is also pretty lacking. There are some fun traditions, like Lobsterfest, Storming of the Arch, Mountain Day, and Springfest. Outside of those events, there's not much to do except go to East and get drunk, while loudly discussing how drunk you're getting. If that doesn't appeal to you, you're pretty well screwed.
