Positive Negative Neutral Advice
BJU greatly helped in the areas of discipline,Finance
BJU greatly helped in the areas of discipline, professionalism, and character. More and more professional businesses and other fields are looking for good, upstanding young people coming from college. Many of them are getting disgusted with the lazy, grungy people coming from secular universities. This is not to say that there aren't good kids coming from these secular universities, I know because I competed against them for jobs. However, if you truly want to have a disciplined work ethic, BJU is a great start. You will be hard pressed to get a better education elsewhere. However, if you are able to do this on your own or through a reputable school then by all means do so. BJU is not for everyone, don't force yourself or you will be miserable. It is a christian school that caters to conservative christians and will only force its will on those who choose to attend. Those who negatively review BJU and there time there need to remember that attending school at a certain place is a choice. Many may say they were forced to attend this "horrible, restrictive school", well then don't be a coward critic and leave those that force you so you can attend where you desire. I chose BJU and would have only regretted going there if I had wanted to choose to go to a different school and didn't go there. I have done an immense job of rambling, however I hope that this review has been helpful. Remember, not all graduates of this school are closed minded bigots that are racist. That is a preconceived idea by those who want tolerance but refuse to show tolerance.

Question
While attending Bob Jones, I learned about aBrightInterior Design
While attending Bob Jones, I learned about a list of legalistic rules, but nothing about the love of God. I left the university after my first semester and I would never recommend it to anyone. While masquerading as a "Christian institution", BJU teaches only the rigid following of blind tradition and a list of rules assembled by men and completely devoid of God's Word. I was raised in a "BJ church" (If you were, you know what I am talking about.) and I never thought that I would say this about a school that has probably done some good for the cause of Christ, but Bob Jones has drifted dangerously close to racism and sexism (among other things). For instance, most people have probably heard of the interracial dating rule. Even if you don't support interracial marriage, at BJU the "dating rules" kick in if you are only having a casual conversation on a public sidewalk in broad daylight. In other words they, for years, maintained a policy that students could not socialize in anyway with a person of the opposite sex that is a different race. The university also has different rules and standards for guys vs. girls. I am not talking about the obvious things, modesty and so forth, but women on the campus are much more restricted than men to the point of being ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I am not a feminist. Most people would consider me a very conservative person. Wow, I have run on and on without getting to the most important point. Bob Jones was based on Christian principles, but it has lost sight of the awesome love of God. The university's administration has forgotten that the most important thing is a personal relationship with God, not the appearance of spirituality. Any lost person can put on a long skirt (or a tie for the guys) but that does not mean anything if they don't have a relationship with our Creator. BJU has drifted over the years from being about the relationship to being all about a religion. I would advise you to consider other universities. In my experience, you can actually grow more spiritually in a state school (and contrary to popular opinion, yes there are many great Bible and church groups to get involved in) than you can in a place where everything is about hipocrisy.

I love what I do, and am very grateful for my teachers and instructors at BJU. I have taught for over 25 years, and count it a privilege to influence young lives to serve the Lord with music.
